2016. The Year Ahead

2016, happy new year, new year

So I wrote one of these posts around the same time last year, and I thought it would be good to reflect back on the year as well as looking ahead to what 2016 will bring.

The first part of the year was mostly taken up with preparing for the arrival of Wee Bun – planning my natural caesarean and getting c section tips from other mums. I let you all have a gander at my body 2 weeks postpartum and shared my thoughts on getting to grips with being a mum of 2. We talked boobs (a lot), and my postnatal hormones led to the odd rant (or two).

I had great fun organising #whyibreastfeed, then taking part in the Keep Britain Breastfeeding Scavenger Hunt along with lots of other fab bloggers. That led to the birth of Positive About Breastfeeding (come over and visit us on the page if you haven’t already!). I found my funny bone with posts about playgroup mumsparental units, and the subtle neglect of your second child and turned my hand to prose with this piece on cosleeping.

The Toddler turned 3 (sob) this year, started at playschool and got himself out of nappies. He is growing up at an extraordinary rate and it makes me a little sad. I have to do his nursery application in January for his preschool year – my head still can’t get wrapped round that! He is so wonderful (most of the time) with his baby sister, which makes my heart sing – seeing her laugh till she can barely breathe at his antics is my most favourite thing.

My plans for fitness regimes and challenges this year didn’t really materialise to much – but Mr AB lost 3.5 stone, making a total loss of 6.5 stone between us. It’s been a very hard year for him because he lost his job in the summer and has been umemployed since. This hasn’t been particularly easy for us as a couple or as a family – being under each others feet all the time soon becomes tiresome. But, if I can ask for your positive thoughts and finger crossing please, as there are upcoming job interviews in January and murmurings of other opportunities – we just need a little bit of luck to come our way (just a teeny bit, I won’t be greedy with it!)

I have been pretty on and off with the blog throughout the year, but I am (promise) going to get more organised with scheduling and actually writing down what’s in my head rather than concocting blog posts at 1am then having forgotten them by morning. A few years back I did a 30 day blogging challenge – I’m debating it again for January. Do you think I have it in me? I have a day or two to sleep on it….I’ll let you know!

I’m back to my photography work now, and am hopeful of growing this side of my business along with a new venture borne from my love of babywearing.

I don’t really have any resolutions for 2016. Maybe to keep doing what I’m doing, try to do it a little better, be more patient, to stop wishing time away, to be more appreciative of what I have. I did quite a lot of charity work in 2015 and I’m hoping that this will continue in 2016 as it really is a wonderful thing to be involved in.

I did think this post was perhaps going to be ‘deeper’, a soul searcher of sorts, but I realise now that 2015 has mostly been about surviving, Surviving with a toddler, surviving with a newborn and surviving with a unemployed husband at home. We’ve made it to the end of the year and that’s good enough for me. 2016, let’s be having you.
